The Cup results that year were; 1st Round, defeated Ballyclare HS 8-0; 2nd Round, defeated Portora RS 6-0; quarter-final, defeated RBAI 6-3; semi-final, defeated Methodist College 6-3 after a 3-3 draw, and in the final drew 0-0 with Campbell College.
The year 2014 was the 50th Anniversary of the 1964 final and, as was the case the two previous years, there was a Reunion of many members of the team on the 17th March 2014. In the morning the team was received by the Headmaster, Mr Moore Dickson, at School. Part of this reception involved a tour of the School, very much changed since 1964!
After leaving School the team went to Ravenhill to have lunch with their Cup Final opponents of 50 years ago, Campbell College. This was followed by watching the 2014 final between Methodist College and Sullivan Upper School.
In the evening there was a Dinner for both teams at the Royal Belfast Golf Club. This was also attended by the current Headmasters of Belfast Royal Academy and Campbell College, Mr Moore Dickson and Mr Robert Robinson respectively. Both Headmasters spoke at the Dinner with the other speakers being the captains, Harry Rea of Academy and Mansell Heslip of Campbell College.
In 1964 Belfast Royal Academy were joint-winners of the Ulster Schools' Cup after drawing with Campbell College in the final. This was the third consecutive year that the School 1stXV had achieved this having drawn 6-6 with RBAI in 1962 and 8-8 with Rainey ES in 1963. These three consecutive drawn finals by one school is a unique occurrence in Ulster Schools' Cup history.
It was particularly pleasing that Harry Rea was able to be there, having travelled from New Zealand
for the occasion. As well, the members of the team were also extremely pleased that the coaches
of the 1963-64 side, Mr Arthur Thompson and Mr George Spotswood, were also able to join them.
All in all this anniversary Reunion provided a memorable day for the members of the 1964 Schools' Cup team who were in attendance.
